The Red Fox belongs to the Fox family and is a wall-mounted fixture with a typical cubic shape, made of Azobe heartwood.

The Red Fox comes with:

The fixture has been constructed and tested to EN 60598 directive of European Harmonized Legislation. US & Canada wiring available on request.

Installation of lights
We prepare our lighting fixtures for installation. The black electrical cable that comes with the lighting fixture is already connected, and if bulbs or fluorescent lights are included, these have been installed in advance. We recommend to have all lighting fixtures installed by a qualified electrician.

The Story Behind the Fox

The Fox lamp is distinguished by its cubic form cut from the rugged beams of discarded dragline mats. Exposing the beautiful inner structure of the original tree’s growth rings, the Fox lamps present the striking contrast between the warmer reds of its polished top and its rough darker sides.

History

The Fox lamp is made from wooden platforms or ‘dragline mats’ used to create temporary stations in wetlands supporting heavy machinery such as trucks, loaders, and lifting cranes. Dragline mats are constructed with ‘Azobé’ wood, also called ‘ironwood’. Azobé is one of the world’s heaviest and most robust types of wood that sinks in water and is stronger than steel. As Azobé wood slowly petrifies and becomes harder with time, dragline mats are known to last for several decades. But when part of the platform breaks, the whole dragline mat is usually discarded. Before it ends up as firewood, we step in, salvage the beams and extend its lifespan as a Fox lamp.

Design

The heartwood used in the Fox lamps has a warm dark-red color complemented by lighter yellow-colored tones. By sanding the top and bottom of the lamp to its finest grain, we enhance this wonderful artwork of nature even more. Exposed to the natural elements for decades, Azobe wood beams acquire a richness of markings built up through the years. The lateral sides of the Fox lamp boast these ravages of time in raw chocolate-brown, creating the perfect balance to the warmer reds of its polished top.
