Options
Due to its characteristic looks, this lamp was known as a ‘Turtle lamp’. A wide range of these lamps were produced by the East German manufacturer Elektroinstallation Oberweimar (EOW), and used in a large variety of industries. Its typically industrial design comprises an cast-aluminium body with a spring-mounted ceramic E27 socket, fitted with a splash-proof glass cover. The River Turtle is distinguished by a screw-on protective case, and also comes in smaller variants known as the ‘Little River Turtle’ and the ‘Baby River Turtle’.
ORIGIN
The lamp was salvaged from a former state-owned cable manufacturer in East Germany. Together with several others it was mounted to the wall in the factory’s basement.
RESTORATION
All our lights are restored by hand with the greatest care. As unique piece of heritage, we seek to preserve the light’s authentic appearance. We present the lamp in it’s original finish, or re-finish the light in it’s original color. The lamp has been completely rewired to current standards, and fully assembled and tested to European Legislation, We hope that it may be preserved for many centuries to come.
DETAILS
The River Turtle can be supplied with either halogen or LED bulb. Standard the light comes with 2.0m long cable. Other lengths for cable are possible on request, please specify in comments at check out. The River Turtle will be accompanied by its passport, documenting the history and origin of the lamp. 110 volt options, US & Canada wiring, and other specialties are available.
