This classical lamp shade is the conical version of the ‘Black Swan’. It was commonly used during the DDR era, and originally designed by the Bauhaus movement in the late 1920s. These lights were produced in large numbers by the lighting manufacturer Leuchtenbau Leipzig, in order to be used in light industrial areas like collective farms and railway stations. They feature an enameled shade with a bakelite connection box, and come in various types and sizes.
This medium-sized shade with a conical dome hung in one of the abandoned buildings of an East German ‘Kabelwerk’, a manufacturer of high-and low-voltage cables. Until the factory was closed in the early nineties, it was one of the lights that illuminated the manufacturing area from great height.
The Pelican comes with a 42 watt E27 halogen bulb, a 1,5 meter matt black cable, and its passport describing the history and origin of the lamp.
The fixture has been completely rewired to current standards, and is assembled and tested to EN 60598 directive of European Harmonized Legislation. US & Canada wiring available on request.
