This large classical shade belongs to the family of the ‘Blackbird’ and the ‘Black Swan’. These lights were commonly used during the DDR era, and was originally designed by the Bauhaus movement in the late 1920s. They were produced in large numbers by the manufacturer Leuchtenbau Leipzig in order to be used in light industrial areas like collective farms and railway stations. It features a large enameled shade with a bakelite connection box.
ORIGIN
The large enamel shade was salvaged from the terrain of a former refrigerator manufacturer in East Germany. The lamps hung at the entrance of one of the main production areas of the factory.
RESTORATION
All our lights are restored by hand with the greatest care. As unique piece of heritage, we seek to preserve the light’s authentic appearance. The lamp has been completely rewired to current standards, and fully assembled and tested to European Legislation, We hope that it may be preserved for many centuries to come.
DETAILS
The Albatross can be supplied with either halogen or LED bulb. Standard the light comes with 2.0m long cable, 2.0m suspension wires, and black canopy. Other lengths for cable and suspension wires possible on request, please specify in comments at check out. The Albatross will be accompanied by its passport, documenting the history and origin of the lamp.
